For children under 10, toys are their words and play is their language. At this age, traditional "talk therapy" often doesn't fit how a child actually experiences their world. That's why our approach for young children's therapy is entirely play based and child led. By stepping into their world of creative play, we help them process big feelings, navigate challenges, and build resilience in a space where they feel entirely safe, understood, and in control.

Pre-teens is a time of incredible transition as they leave early childhood behind and navigate their way toward high school, experiencing rapid social, emotional, and physical changes. This phase can make traditional children therapy feel inadequate; play based therapy for children seems too juvenile, while sitting on a couch talking for an hour can feel intimidating. Our therapists use a hybrid approach, combining talk therapy with engaging collaborative activities such as arts and games to meet young people where they are.

Being a teenager today comes with an entirely unique set of pressures; from social media to academic stress, and the challenge of figuring out their identity amidst all the noise. Our approach to young people counselling is built entirely on respect, trust, and collaboration. We provide a confidential, non-judgmental environment where teens can safely explore their feelings.
Confidentiality
Your child's privacy is strictly protected. To foster genuine trust, I do not share session content with parents unless a child expresses a specific, immediate threat to their safety or the safety of another child, such as self-harm, suicidal intentions or abuse.
If a safety concern does come up, our first step is always to work directly with the family. We operate in line with Fife Council's local guidelines, which firmly believe that families should be supported. We use a framework for helping families navigate mental health challenges together, ensuring you have the tools and support you need to keep your young person safe.

Safeguarding
We practice in strict alignment with Scotland's national GIRFEC (Getting it Right For Every Child) Framework and Fife Council's Inter-Agency Child Protection Guidelines.
Because transparency builds trust, it is important to know exactly when confidentiality must be broken. This only happens if a child expresses a threat to their own safety, such as self harm or suicidal intentions, or if they make a disclosure they or another vulnerable person they know is at risk.
